Dear Colleagues:

We invite abstract submissions to 2019 Fall AGU Natural Hazards session
NH042 - *The Role of Scientists as Technical Specialists in the Response
and Recovery Phases of Natural Disasters*

Accurate scientific information can mean the difference between life and
death during emergency response. Scientists serving as Technical
Specialists (TS) are important members of Incident Management Teams as is
described in the United States National Incident Management System. Safety
for the responders and the threatened population is the foremost
consideration in command objectives and decisions. The TS is on-scene in
the Incident Command Post or Emergency Operations Center to provide
scientific information and to promote safety and the efficiency of
operations.

We aim for a mix of presentations that will:

· Share examples of TS support during the Response and Recovery
phases of recent disasters.

· Encourage qualified earth, ocean, or atmospheric scientists to
participate in emergency response operations.

· Discuss training resources for scientists to effectively
participate in the Incident Command System.

Presentations will include lessons learned from on-scene Technical
Specialists to demonstrate the role of critical data analysis, technical
details, and forecasts during emergencies.

Session conveners:
