Dear Colleagues,

We would like to announce a joint workshop of the CONVERSE Volcano Geodesy
group & the IACVEI Volcano Geodesy Commission prior to the 2019 SAGE/GAGE
workshop in Portland in October.

Location: Hilton Portland Downtown, 921 SW Sixth Avenue, Portland,
Oregon

Dates:          October 07-08, 2019

Organizers:  Ronni Grapenthin, New Mexico Tech;
                    Emily Montgomery-Brown, USGS;
                    Michael Poland, USGS;
                    Alessandro Bonforte, INGV

Contact: Ronni Grapenthin, rg@xxxxxxx

Website: http://www.grapenthin.org/converse

Overview: The purpose of the NSF-funded Community Network for Volcanic
Eruption Response (CONVERSE-https://volcanoresponse.org/) Research
Coordination Network (RCN) is to enable, organize, and focus the
collaboration of US academic and government researchers, along with foreign
entities, involved in volcano science. As part of CONVERSE we are holding
discipline-focused workshops where researchers can gather and work towards
achieving CONVERSE's goals. A volcano geodesy workshop will be hosted in
conjunction with the inaugural meeting of the IACVEI geodesy commission in
October 2019. The major meeting goals are to:

1) Identify the frontiers of volcano geodetic knowledge and capabilities
2) Explore key volcano science questions that can be answered with geodetic
tools
3) Explore methods to integrate geodetic data with other sensor data,
networks and how to orchestrate rapid eruption responses.
4) Identify and explore new technologies that will further volcano
geodesy (e.g., MEMS gravity, single frequency receivers, â?¦)
5) Identify longer term geographic working groups

This meeting will be the prequel a longer, dedicated, IAVCEI-Geodesy 2020
workshop that will focus on the training early career scientists and making
progress on the above items.

Need-based or partial funding is available for a limited number of
applicants and an application form will be available soon. If interested in
attending the workshop, please email Ronni Grapenthin (rg@xxxxxxx). We
anticipate a maximum meeting attendance of ~40 participants.

We hope to see you in Portland,
Ronni, Emily, Mike, Alex.
