*5-year Tenure track position in â??Volcanic hazards and risksâ?? at Clermont
Auvergne University â?? Laboratoire Magmas et Volcans â?? Clermont-Ferrand
(France)*

*Job profile**: **Research and teaching in volcanic hazards, vulnerability,
resilience, risk communication, and physical-economic-societal impacts of
eruptive events*

We invite applications to join the volcanology group of the â??Laboratoire
Magmas & Volcansâ?? in Clermont-Ferrand, France (
http://lmv.univ-bpclermont.fr/), within the context of a large, recently
funded, project on â??Risk and Socio-Economic Vulnerability Associated with
Natural Disastersâ?? (â??challenge 4â?? of I-Site Cap 20-25,
http://i-site-clermont.fr). Research activities will be focused on physical
and socio-economic impacts of volcanic eruptions, hazard quantification,
risk evaluation, vulnerabilityâ??resilience assessment, and risk/hazard
communication strategies. The applicant must thus possess demonstrable
expertise in the area of volcanic hazards, but interests in vulnerability
and risk are also desirable. The recruited candidate will be required to
develop collaborative projects with other laboratories involved in this new
initiative (i.e., mathematics, economics, human and social sciences,
atmospheric physics, law, etc.). Our aim is to recruit an experienced
specialist in the area of volcanic hazards and risk with recognized
international experience. The successful candidate will play a central
role in the development of research activities in the area of volcanic
hazard and risk, in particular in developing countries. The I-Site
initiative provides grants - from funds already available - to support
research projects in collaboration with our partner departments. Upon
arrival, financial support will be provided, within the framework of the
research project the recruited candidate will conduct, for the recruitment
of one to two temporary researchers (doctoral and/or post-doctoral).

The position will involve teaching French students in Earth Sciences at the
undergraduate and graduate levels. If necessary, language training will be
provided to non-native French speakers. The teaching load will be 64 hours
per year during the three first years, and 98 hours per year during the two
following years (representing respectively one third and one half of the
regular load of 192 hours). The successful candidate will be central to the
development of an international teaching module â??Natural disaster risk
reduction and managementâ?? to be taught as part of our â??Earth, Planetary and
Environmental Sciencesâ?? course in collaboration with other disciplines such
as economics, psychology, geography and law. At the end of the five year
probationary period, the recruited candidate will have the opportunity to
apply for a permanent position at professor level.

Further information may be requested from Olivier Roche (
olivier.roche@xxxxxx). Applicants must apply before Sunday May 12, 2019.
