As described in the most recent IAVCEI newsletter, the IUGG General
Assembly will occur in Montréal 8-18 July this year. IAVCEI is part of
IUGG and a significant portion of the funds that keep IAVCEI functioning
come from IUGG based upon how many IAVCEI members attend the IUGG General
Assembly. In order to make attendance an attractive proposition, IAVCEI
has 22 symposia and 24 joint symposia (co-convened with other IUGG member
associations). The IAVCEI sessions are planned to take place during the
second half of the meeting. These can be reviewed at
http://iugg2019montreal.com/v.html. I think all volcanologists will find
interesting symposia to attend and most volcanologists will find a
symposium that matches what they want to present. In order to be certain
that there is an appropriate place for every abstract, Lizzette Rodríguez
and I are convening a general session, symposium 20, Recent Advances in
Volcanology.

Description:
Volcanoes produce many different types of eruptions that result in varied
deposits. In the 100 years since the foundation of IAVCEI, volcanology has
grown as a science and the understanding of magmatic and eruptive processes
has improved through time. This symposium will discuss and compare these
processes and products.

We encourage you to review the symposia, including ours, at the IUGG
General Assembly and submit an abstract (due 18 February).

Best regards,

Michael
