We would like to draw your attention to a PhD opportunity at the University of Leeds, starting in October 2018. This is a 3-year studentship with funding for UK or EU applicants. The application deadline is June 17th.
The project will investigate processes that can cause deformation after a body of magma has stopped moving through the crust. This could be associated with phase changes, internal redistribution of volume and the adjustment of surrounding rocks to the intrusion of magma. The student will work with Dr Susanna Ebmeier & Dr Dan Morgan at the University of Leeds, and with Dr Eleanora Rivalta at GFZ Potsdam. Methods will involve analysing observations of deformation made with satellite radar, thermodynamic forward modelling of intruded magma volumes and analogue modelling experiments.
