Dear all,

The Methana peninsula opposite Athens in the Saronic Gulf of Greece is one of Europe's least known active volcanic areas. It consists of a group of overlapping prehistoric and one historic (3rd century BC) lava domes that overlie limestone basement.

Methana is known for its hot springs and uncrowded, beautiful green rural landscape. Team member photographer Tobias Schorr (tobiasschorr@xxxxxxxxxx) who has lived more than 10 years in Methana and knows the peninsula better than anyone recently spent countless hours documenting each of the more than 30 lava domes of Methana with his drone from the air. The results are some very impressive shots of lava domes and associated flows that beautifully illustrate this type of volcanic edifice in general:
