Hi  all,

As well as reminding you and colleagues/students that we are approaching some deadlines for the INTAV tephra conference "Crossing New Frontiers: Tephra Hunt in Transylvania" (24-29 June 2018), we are pleased to advise that we have revised the guidelines for student/ECR travel support. ECR eligibility is now up to 8 years (excluding breaks for family reasons) since receiving a PhD, a definition consistent with the INQUA guidelines for ECRs (see INQUA website: https://www.inqua.org/ecr).

Consequently, we have also extended the application deadline for ECRs/students to apply for travel support funding. Previously March 20th, the new deadline is now March 31st, 2018. This extension allows some extra time if more people are now eligible to apply for the funding support. The applications are not onerous and should not take long to prepare and submit. We look forward to seeing your application. Full details about applying are on the tephra conference website:

http://www.bayceer.uni-bayreuth.de/intav2018/index.php?lang=en

We take this opportunity to warmly encourage you and your students to register for the meeting sooner rather than later, and to submit your abstract(s), via the conference website. Although there is still plenty of time for early bird registration and abstract submission (deadline 30 April), the spectacular postconference field trip booking (deadline also 30 April) is on a 'first-come first-served' basis.

We have had considerable interest in the meeting, not only from our tephrochronological fraternity but also from colleagues especially interested in loess studies and paleopedology, and in volcanology, all of which will feature at some point during the meeting (please see the conference website).

Warm regards
David Lowe and Daniel Veres
- on behalf of LOC and INTAV executive
