Please circulate this invitation to be the student representative on the management board of the Mineralogy, Geochemistry, Petrology and Volcanology Division of GSA

About the MGPV Division:

GSA's Mineralogy, Geochemistry, Petrology, and Volcanology Division (established 2009; ~2,000 members now) promotes awareness, teaching, and research in these fields, and stimulates discussion about the knowledge, ideas, research results, and problems regarding these fundamental areas of the earth sciences. Annually, the Division sponsors a Distinguished Geologic Career Award, an Early Career Award and two student research grant awards and student travel grants.

MGPV seeks a graduate student who is willing to serve a two-year term as the student representative on the MGPV’s management board. The board consists of several officers (chair, first vice chair, second vice chair, secretary-treasurer, past chair), representatives from adhering societies and a student representative. Current board members and more information about the Division can be found at http://community.geosociety.org/mgpvdivision/home.

The role of the graduate student is to provide student perspectives on issues and activities related to the Division. The student is a voting member of the management board and is expected to participate in email and skype communications, and when possible, come to the annual meeting and participate in Division functions (e.g., business meeting, reception, etc.). Our hope is that the student representative will seek input from other students in the Division so that broad student representation is achieved.

Requirements are that the student be a member of GSA and MGPV Division and have MGPV as his/her principal discipline(s) of study.

To apply, please provide a current C.V. and complete the application.  Send a single pdf (with application and C.V.) to Anita Grunder, chair of MGPV by February 26.  Email address is grundera@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxu. Please label the subject line “MGPV student application” and name the pdf lastname.MGPV.pdf.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Anita Grunder (email or 541 737 1249).
