Electron microprobe lab manager position
Washington State University (WSU) is currently seeking a Laboratory Manager for the Electron Microprobe facility in the GeoAnalytical lab, located in the School of the Environment on the Pullman campus. The position will be filled at the Research Associate level.
The Laboratory Manager’s responsibilities will include oversight and routine maintenance and operation of the JEOL 8500F field-emission electron microprobe and relevant sample preparation facilities, sample preparation/preparation advice, billing customers for services, and course instruction. Specific operational responsibilities will include: setting up the instrument and monitoring its performance for students, faculty and other users collecting their own data; data collection and reduction, analysis for some customers, and instrument demonstrations for classes and visitors. In addition to instructing users in the operation of the instruments, the Manager will also be responsible for lectures and laboratory exercises in Geology 552, Analytical Methods in Earth Sciences. The Laboratory Manager will be expected to keep abreast of new technical developments, provide technical advice to faculty and students, and to conduct their own research and seek extramural funding. Required qualifications are an earned doctorate in a Geoscience discipline at the time of employment, and experience working with electron microprobe instrument(s). This is a 12-month state-funded position salaried at 75%, renewable each year subject to performance.
