The Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno seeks a full-time Lab Manager to oversee the use and maintenance of the department’s major equipment and analytical facilities. These facilities include two modern scanning electron microscopes (JEOL JSM-6010LA and JSM-7100FT FE-SEM), and a Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (LA-ICP-MS) (Agilent 7700x ICP-MS and a Resonetics RESOlution M50-E 193 nm laser). The FE–SEM is equipped with state-of-the-art BSEEDS, CL, and EBSD detectors. The Lab Manager is responsible for the operation, maintenance, business development, budgeting and accounting for the SEM and LA-ICP-MS facilities. The manager establishes and implements policies and procedures, including safety standards; supervises, trains, and schedules users of the facility; assists and/or completes data reduction, ensuring quality control; manages laboratory supplies and invoicing; administers the lab accounts and annual budget; and maintains the laboratory websites. It is expected that the Lab Manager will supervise instrument analyses, review analytical methods, and recommend best-practice analytical approaches.


Required Qualifications: Master’s Degree in geoscience, chemistry or physics and 2 years of related work experience. Relevant experience: operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation equipment; experience acquired during graduate study may count toward the requirement.
