Universidad de Los Andes seeks applications for five full-time faculty positions in the Department of Earth Sciences (Geosciences). Universidad de los Andes is located in central Bogotá, Colombia. It is the 5th highest ranked University in Latin America by the Times Higher Education Rankings 2017, with a student body of 14,000 undergraduate students and 4,000 graduate students. The Geosciences Department currently consists of seven full time research and teaching faculty.
Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. degree in Earth Sciences, ideally with two years of postdoctoral experience and demonstrated capabilities to lead a scientific research program and/or extensive and relevant industrial experience. All candidates must have a record of significant and innovative research, documented by peer-reviewed publications.
We specially encourage applications from candidates with a strong background in sedimentology, stratigraphy (with emphasis on basin analysis and/or palaeontology), structural geology and tectonics, igneous and metamorphic petrology, geophysics (with emphasis on potential fields), and climatology (with emphasis on tropical climate).
The successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program; teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in English or Spanish; supervise undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level research conducted by students; contribute to departmental and University administration; and support outreach activities. It is anticipated that appointments will be made at the Assistant Professor level. However, higher level appointments considered on an individual basis for applicants with the appropriate qualifications.
