Dear colleagues,

The deadline for abstract submission at AGU Fall Meeting 2017 is approaching (Aug 2, 2017) and we invite you to submit an abstract to the following session:

V031 | The Mixing of Magmas: State of the Art and Future Perspectives.

URL: https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm17/preliminaryview.cgi/Session23526

Conveners:  Maurizio Petrelli (University of Perugia, Italy), Philipp Ruprecht (University of Nevada Reno), Diego Perugini (University of Perugia, Italy),

Session description: "The mixing of magmas is a process commonly observed in both plutonic and volcanic rocks and, depending on the fluid dynamic regime, is controlled by stirring, stretching and diffusion. While increasing evidence points to magma mixing as a major process in the Earth system generating compositional diversity in magmas and frequently triggering volcanic eruptions, many first-order questions remain strongly debated: Which rheological conditions promote or inhibit mixing processes? What are the time-scales for magma mixing? How do geochemical heterogeneities produced by mixing processes influence the composition and textures of minerals? What is the physicochemical nature of mass transfer between end-members? Can magma mixing be used as a volcanic chronometer?

This session invites contributions on the structural, textural, and geochemical study of magma-magma interaction processes in the plutonic and volcanic environment. Contributions targeting the study of magma mixing through experiments as well as by theoretical and numerical modeling are also welcome."

The AGU Fall Meeting 2017 will be held in New Orleans on December 11-15, 2017.

We look forward to seeing you in New Orleans.

Kind regards,
Maurizio Petrelli (on behalf of the conveners)
