*******************************************************************************************************

I remind you that the application deadline for the Awards & Medals of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) for the year 2018 is tomorrow (!).

Please, consider!

1. Sergey Soloviev Medal
This medal has been established by the Division on Natural Hazards (NH) in recognition of the scientific achievements of Sergey Soloviev. It will be awarded for outstanding scientific contributions in fundamental research that improves our knowledge of basic natural hazards principles as well as research that assesses and leads to the proper mitigation of natural hazards from both human and environmental perspectives.

2. Plinius Medal
This medal has been established by the EGU Natural Hazards (NH) Division to recognise interdisciplinary natural hazard research. The name of Gaius Plinius Secundus (~23 - 79 A.D.) acknowledges the role of our ancestors working to improve both knowledge and mitigation of natural hazards. From 2002-2003 (EGS) and 2004-2011 (EGU) the Plinius medal was awarded to early career scientists. Since 2012 the Plinius medal is devoted to recognise interdisciplinary research in natural hazards by mid-career scientists. The Plinius medal will be awarded to outstanding mid-career scientists who meet the following criteria: (a) outstanding research achievements in fields related with natural hazards, (b) important interdisciplinary activity in two or more fields related with this topic, and (c) research that has been applied in the mitigation of risks from natural hazards.

3. Division Outstanding Early Career Scientists Award
The Division Outstanding Early Career Scientists Award (formerly Division Outstanding Young Scientists Award) recognises scientific achievements in the field covered by the related Division, made by an early career scientist.

The final deadline for submissions is 15 June, 2017.

For more information on proposing candidates and on the selection process, please see:

The awards will be presented at the EGU General Assembly 2018 (08 – 13 April) in Vienna.

Nominations for the Medals and Awards should be submitted on-line:

The EGU particularly encourages the community to promote the best deserving geoscientists from around the world with particular regard to gender, ethnic, geographical and cultural balance. Please consider submitting a nomination.

Best wishes,
Ira Didenkulova
Deputy president of NH division
