Doctorate Student (PhD) fellowship in magmatic petrology at ETH Zurich, Switzerland.

The Institute for Geochemistry and Petrology at ETH Zurich invites applications for a PhD fellowship in magmatic petrology.

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student interested in studying magmatic processes in subduction zones, focusing on dynamics of shallow magma reservoirs, and the volcanic/plutonic connection. The PhD project, funded by an Argentinian-Swiss Joint Research Programme, will be integrated in the group of Prof. Olivier Bachmann, in collaboration with the group of Prof. Juan Otamendi (Universidad Nacional de Rio Cuarto). The project will include a combination of fieldwork in northwestern Argentina (Famatinian Arc), geochemical analyses with data interpretation, U/Pb geochronology and geodynamical modeling. Additional information about the project is available upon request.

The length of the appointment will be initially for 3 years, starting in Summer/Fall 2017. Candidates should hold a MSc degree with a strong background in geochemistry, petrology and geochronology, skills in numerical modeling, and a taste for challenging field work.

Interested candidates should send their applications including curriculum vitae, a short research statement and the names and addresses of two references to Olivier Bachmann (olivier.bachmann@xxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:bachmano@xxxxxx>) and Juan Otamendi (jotamendi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:jotamendi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>) in a single pdf-file.
