Session description:

Geology of volcanic areas is a basic tool for understanding volcanic activity. A special attention is given to the geological fieldwork and mapping in volcanic areas as the basis for detailed volcanological and magmatic studies and for understanding the behaviour of volcanoes and their future activity in terms of volcanic hazards (for active or recent volcanoes). Contribution using data from cartographic, stratigraphic, and other field-based methodologies in volcanic areas are welcome, as well as the organization and manipulation of field data with geographic information systems.
