The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) invites applications for a Research Associate position to assist the integration, visualization and analysis of geophysical data collected in the framework of the EOS Lab Volcanoes project.

For more information, please see below or at http://earthobservatory.sg/careers/research-associate-computing-volcanology

Research Associate (Computing - Volcanology)

Young and research-intensive, Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is ranked 13th globally. It is also placed 1st amongst the world’s best young universities. The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at NTU is a national science Research Centre of Excellence. Its mission is to conduct fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, toward safer and more sustainable societies. We invite applications for a Research Associate position to assist the integration, visualisation and analysis of geophysical data collected in the framework of the EOS Lab Volcanoes project. This project, in collaboration with PHIVOLCS (Philippines) and CVGHM (Indonesia), aims to shed light on physical processes controlling the behaviour of the volcanoes. At the moment, two main softwares are used in this project, namely, MSNoise (seismic data analysis, written in Python) and WebObs (multiple data integration and analysis, written in Matlab).

Duties & Responsibilities:

Maintaining WebObs and MSNoise tools linked to the monitoring data collected in the framework of this project.
Integrating multiple data streams for the targeted volcanoes of the project into a database for visualisation and analysis.
Developing in-house tools for data analysis and ensuring integration into the WebObs; this task will encompass the production of a user-manual to be shared with colleagues from volcano observatories and interested parties.

Requirements:

Masters degree in Computer Engineering or Earth Sciences
Experience with database management and scientific programming
Solid background in Matlab
Additional knowledge in Python will be advantageous
Additional knowledge in MySQL will be advantageous
Additional knowledge in Perl will be advantageous
Self-driven, able to work independently but also a good team player, good written and oral communication skills

Interested applications should submit a CV and short (1-page) synopsis of previous achievements and interests, and the names of at least two referees along with their application to eos_humanresources@xxxxxxx.sg
