The app highlights GVP’s newest dataset: a compendium of SO2 emissions (kilotons/event) derived from NASA satellite observations and provided to GVP by Simon Carn at Michigan Technological University. An E3 user can also track individual SO2 plumes as they encircle the globe and disperse.
The new datastreams are part of a larger partnership with the Deep Carbon Observatory to quantify volcanic emissions, and Smithsonian gratefully acknowledges their support for E3. We also acknowledge NASA for supporting development of the volcanic SO2 database through the MEaSUREs program. www.volcano.si.edu/E3
Volcano Listserv is a collaborative venture among Arizona State University (ASU), Portland State University (PSU), the Global Volcanism Program (GVP) of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History, and the International Association for Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI).
