We are writing to give you an update on the Chapman Conference: Submarine Volcanism: New Approaches and Research Frontiers to be held during the week of January 30 and February 3, 2017 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. http://chapman.agu.org/submarinevolcanism/

3. RegistrationRegistration fees have been calculated at $550 USD. Low income (Tier 1 and Tier 2 low income countries identified by the World Bank) and student attendee registration is $375 USD. This registration fee covers morning and afternoon tea on each day, icebreaker and closing festivities, and the mid-conference field trip (meals, boat ride and visit to Tasmania Devil Den). Registration will open in early October.4. Travel to and from the conferenceTravel to and from Tasmania is relatively simple.International travel from major cities to Melbourne or Sydney is ideal, followed by a 1-1.5 hour direct domestic flight to Hobart. Within Australia major domestic carriers are Virgin Australia and Qantas, and budget carriers are Jetstar and Tiger airlines.Air travel in the January/February summer periods can become very expensive if booked at the last minute. Please consider booking your travel before October to ensure reasonable rates. In general flights from the US are $2000-$2500, from Asia are $1000 - $1500, and from Europe are $1500 - $2500.Hobart is a 20 minute car/taxi ride from the airport. Shuttles and taxis are available.5. HotelsHotel accommodation is in the Hobart CBD. AGU has organised a deal for accommodation at the Hotel Grand Chancellor only 5 minutes walk from the conference venue. Travel supportA limited amount of travel support for early career researchers (within 15 years of PhD confirmation) and graduate students is available from multiple sources.(1) US National Science Foundation: To be eligible for this funding you must be at a US institution. Please apply through an email to Bill Chadwick as per instructions below.(2) International Association of Sedimentologists: Student travel grants are available for members of the International Association of Sedimentologists (10 euro/yr) to attend this conference; student members presenting on any sedimentologically relevant topic can apply for a grant from their member profile before 15th October 2016.
