Dear colleagues,
Interested
in volcano geodesy? Care a lot about volcano topography? Spend time
thinking about volcano geomorphology? Then this is the AGU session for
you!!!
G023. The Topography, Geodesy, and Morphology of Active Volcanoes
Perhaps
the most basic dataset for any volcano is topography. The shape of a
volcano governs how hazards are distributed and records information
about past volcanism, while changes in shape provide an indication of
subsurface processes that offer insight into present-day activity.
Tools for acquiring topographic data on volcanoes encompass a variety of
methods (including lidar, radar, and photogrammetry) acquired from
platforms ranging from inexpensive hobby drones to dedicated satellite
missions. We seek to highlight new developments in quantifying the
shapes of active volcanoes, how those shapes control (or are controlled
by) eruptive processes, and how the shape of a volcano changes over
timescales of minutes to millennia. We welcome presentations that
describe technological innovations and that highlight new results and
case studies. Our intent is to enhance dialog between users of this
most fundamental dataset, with the ultimate goal of facilitating future
collection and interpretation of volcano topographic data.
