Cities on Volcanoes, Puerto Varas, Chile, 20-25 November 2016.
Workshop: 20 November 2016.
Workshop W2 Inter- and transdisciplinary practice.
Leaders: Victoria Sword-Daniels, Melanie Duncan, Emma Hudson-Doyle, Jenni Barclay, Carina Fearnley, Anna Hicks.
We invite you to participate in our Cities on Volcanoes 9 workshop 'Inter- and transdisciplinary practice'.
‘Transdisciplinary’
approaches to managing volcanic crises are increasingly important,
demonstrating increased value in developing strong collaboration and
knowledges between academic researchers, those charged with managing
volcanic risk, and vulnerable populations. In recent years
interdisciplinary approaches in volcanological research have evolved
extensively across numerous geographical, social, and political
contexts, and between numerous stakeholders. This workshop provides a
timely opportunity to reflect on a growing community of practice,
providing the opportunity to move towards common understandings of good
practice as well as to share learning about experiences of researchers
and practitioners working in this space.
A key
aim of this workshop is to foster a supportive community of researchers
and practitioners working in inter- and transdisciplinary practice, by
drawing from our collective experiences and working towards shared
understandings of good practice. A proposed output of the workshop is a
working document that reflects some key ingredients for success, and key
challenges to be mindful of, building from the experiences,
perspectives and reflections of those attending the workshop.
The
workshop will be participatory and attendees are invited to share their
thoughts on how we may foster an active and engaged community of
researchers and practitioners working in this space. It is suggested
that this workshop could launch a 'Working Group', which will allow
further participation of others at different conferences and meetings,
to grow the group and act as a vehicle for bringing this thinking
together. This type of Working Group would also allow the group to share
and develop best practice with audiences working in other hazard
contexts, extending understanding in multi-hazard contexts.
