Dear All,

we would like to draw your attention to the session P4, at the European Mineralogical Conference 2016 to be held at Rimini, Italy
The cycling of carbon from the surface to subduction, and vice-versa
Keynote Speaker: Rajdeep Dasgupta, Rice University

The abstract and early registration deadline is 9 May 2016.

Session description:
Convergent margins are characterized by large-scale mass transfer processes, which control the cycling of carbon on a global scale. Complexation in fluids and mineral transformations involving carbonates, graphitic carbon, diamond govern carbon mobility in the fore- and sub-arc region of slab-mantle interface. Dissolution, reduction, melting, and reactive percolation account for the variety of metasomatized rocks forming in the slab and in the mantle wedge, source for the magmatism. The diversity of orogenic magmas contributes to continental roots and, eventually, through redox processes, to the mobilization and re-concentration of carbon. CO2 outgassing at convergent margins is significant and take place via volcanism and diffuse degassing, controlling the triggering and style of volcanic eruptions.

We look forward to seeing you in Rimini
