Etna Summer school
*****************************************************************************************************
Dear colleagues,
It is our pleasure to circulate the 2nd call for participants to the "Etna International Training School of Geochemistry 2016. Science meets Practice".
The school is addressed to master and PhD - students as well as postdoctoral researchers, whose main scientific topics concern the geochemistry of volcanoes. Internationally renowned experts will support students in a unique field experience in a spectacular volcanic scenery and will provide them the opportunity to experiment and evaluate new protocols and techniques used on volcanic fluid emissions.
Information concerning the Training School, along with application instructions and selection criteria are detailed below:
Location and Dates
The school will be held at the Osservatorio Vulcanologico Pizzi Deneri (2,850 m a.s.l.) in Mt. Etna (Italy) from 1 to 6 of August 2016.
Program
Classical and innovating direct sampling and remote sensing techniques are going to be presented during the field excursions and lessons that will take place on a daily basis. The detailed program is available on the website: https://sites.google.com/site/etnapizzideneri/program.
Participation fee
The cost of the workshop is 150 €, which includes fees, accommodation (5 nights), meals and transportation (Catania - observatory and back; field activities). The participation fee does not cover travel expenses to Catania (Italy).
Selection criteria
The available positions are 20 and are going to be dispensed to applicants of all levels requested above. Major selection factors will include: (i) relevance with the geochemistry of fluids and volcanic systems; (ii) curriculum vitae (scientific publications, participation to scientific congresses, participation to summer schools and/or workshops); (iii) country of provenance; (iv) candidate's interest to employ own specific instruments and/or sampling equipments during the workshop.
Application
In order to participate, candidates have to fill out the online pre-inscription application form provided on the website: https://sites.google.com/site/etnapizzideneri/pre-inscription-form To apply, candidates have to provide: (i) a two-page curriculum vitae; (ii) a list of publications (including abstract and proceedings); (iii) a motivational letter (presenting the reason they are interested in participating to the school, what objectives they plan to achieve with their participation and if or which instrument or sampling methodology they are going to put in place during the school, etc.); (iv) two reference letters by University professors or eminent researchers/experts of equivalent status.
Application deadline: 20 April 2016 at
12:00pm UTC/GMT
Announcement of results
