European Mineralogical Conference 2016. Syn-eruptive magma degassing, crystallization, deformation, and fragmentation
*****************************************************************************************************
Dear Colleagues,
The second European Mineralogical Conference [http://emc2016.socminpet.it] will be
held in Rimini,
Italy, from 11 to 15 September 2016.
We are pleased to invite you to submit an abstract (before 9
May) to the following
session:
Theme
2 (Magmatism and Volcanology)
Session P10: Syn-eruptive magma degassing, crystallization,
deformation, and fragmentation
Volcanic activity encompasses a large variability of eruption styles, ranging from effusive to explosive. Our understanding of the causes leading to either style is still incomplete and the quantitative relationship of the different parameters is still a matter of debate. In particular, magma is evolving chemically and dynamically during ascent in volcanic conduits via degassing, crystallization, or deformation, the timescales of which eventually decipher whether magma will flow or fragment (i.e. effusive versus explosive eruption). This session invites field, experimental, or modelling based contributions that may help to shed light on these syn-eruptive processes and their impact on eruptive style.
