A new book on ‘Active volcanoes of the Southwest Indian ocean: Piton de la Fournaise and Karthala’ is now available at http://www.springer.com/us/book/9783642313943 either as a hardback or ebook.

The book is part of the series on 'Active Volcanoes of the World' edited by Springer (http://www.springer.com/series/10081), an official book series of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth’s Interior (IAVCEI).

The new book (P. Bachelery, J.F. Lenat, A. Di Muro, L. Michon editors) provides a detailed review of the state-of-the art research on Piton de la Fournaise and Karthala volcanic systems and covers a wide range of research fields (eruptive history, geology, petrology, geochemistry, geophysical and geochemical monitoring, hazard and risk assessment).

The book is of interest to a broad audience of researchers, students, government officials and private sector and could not have been put together without a continuous and close collaboration of national and international research centers and the Piton de la Fournaise Volcanological Observatory (OVPF/IPGP).

Andrea Di Muro (IPGP/OVPF)
Laurent Michon (IPGP/LGSR)
Jean-François Lenat (OPGC/LMV)
Patrick Bachelery (OPGC/LMV)
