Dear Volcano listserv community,

I would like to bring to your attention two employment opportunities in the growing Geoscience program at Drexel University. I apologize for any cross-postings, but would appreciate if you could circulate to potential candidates.
I will be attending both the GSA and AGU conferences, so feel free to reach out to me either in person or by e-mail (loyc@xxxxxxxxxx) with your questions!

1) Geophysics.
The Department of Biodiversity, Earth & Environmental Science seeks applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor appointment in geophysics / hydrogeology. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, near-surface geophysics, groundwater geophysics and transport, and geophysical methods applied to the study of geohazards, the environment, geothermics, groundwater flow or energy. The successful candidate will develop a research program in their subject area and will teach undergraduate courses in the new Geoscience major, including Geophysics and Hydrogeology. The ability to collaborate with other units, such as Drexel’s Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering groups, or the A.J. Drexel Institute of Energy and the Environment, is a plus. Importantly, Drexel University emphasizes experiential learning, and field-oriented candidates are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in geophysics (or related field), a record of scientific achievement, a strong interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching, and must be able to develop a high-quality, externally funded research program. Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, a summary of research experience, a statement of teaching philosophy, and a list of three or more references with postal address, email address, and telephone number. Applicants should apply online at drexeljobs.com (Position# 7135). Review of applications will begin December 21st, 2015 and will continue until the position is filled. Inquires may be sent to Dr. Ted Daeschler, Search Committee Chair at ebd29@xxxxxxxxxx.

2) Aqueous geochemistry
The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University invites applications for a Senior Scientist/Research Faculty appointment in the area of freshwater biogeochemistry / aqueous geochemistry. Relevant fields include (but are not limited to) geochemical cycling-weathering and nutrient cycling including geochemical and biogeochemical of processes mediating chemical exchanges between the hydrosphere and biosphere. The successful applicant will explore how ecological processes in freshwater ecosystems influence fluxes of major/minor elements, nitrogen, phosphorus and carbon in using laboratory, field, and/or modeling approaches. The candidate will have the opportunity to build on several on-going projects, based on their skill sets, and build new research directions within the context of the research group and Department of Biodiversity, Earth and Environmental Science (BEES). Examples of projects and department classes are displayed at both www.ansp.org/pcer and www.drexel.edu/bees. Teaching and mentoring students are part of this position (approx. 25% of time). We seek a creative individual enthused about moving the science of human-altered ecosystems and organic matter dynamics forward. Areas of interest may include characterization of natural systems over long (geologic) and short (environmental) time scales and the influences of climate change and human activity on elemental cycling. Qualifications: Required qualifications include a Ph.D (with post-doctoral experience a plus) in geochemistry, earth system science, biogeochemistry or a related field. Application: Application review starts 12/1/15; applications will be accepted until a qualified applicant is found. Application includes: Curriculum vitae, statement of professional/research interests, and contact information for three references. To apply and see more information please go to: www.drexeljobs.com/applicants/Central?quickFind=80134. The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University has a strong commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion; for more information please email jla336@xxxxxxxxxx
