Continuing (i.e. permanent) position Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Igneous Petrology

The
Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Canterbury
invites applications for the continuing position of Lecturer / Senior
Lecturer in Igneous Petrology. The Department has a diverse staff
covering a range of expertise and delivering an undergraduate
major in Geology and postgraduate programmes in Geology, Engineering
Geology and Hazard and Disaster Management. Igneous Petrology is a core
component of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by
the Department of Geological Sciences. Applicants
for this continuing position will be expected to develop and deliver
classroom and field course material at undergraduate and postgraduate
levels, supervise postgraduate research students in the MSc and PhD
degree programmes, develop their own research portfolio,
and collaborate widely with other Department of Geological Sciences and
UC researchers, including those working in magmatic studies. Dependent
on experience, a developing to excellent research and publication track
record within the broad field of Igneous
Petrology is a key requirement, and competency in field teaching and
research an advantage. Evidence of a commitment to excellent teaching
and applied research with potential or demonstrated ability to lead
research programmes and gain external funding will
be required.Applicants must have a PhD in the broad field of Igneous Petrology, while postdoctoral research or equivalent professional experience in Igneous Petrology with a developing research track record will be an advantage. The Department of Geological Sciences has a high national and international profile and has excellent teaching and research facilities. Research facilities within the department include a petrographics lab, XRF and wet chemistry labs, and access on-campus to ICPMS and SEM. In 2017 the Department of Geological Sciences will be housed within a brand new purpose built Science and Innovation Centre. For more information see www.geol.canterbury.ac.nz.
