Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the workshop "VW06: New Processing and Interpretation Methods in Volcano Seismology " to be held during the upcoming IUGG General Assembly 2015 in Prague. The workshop will run on Thursday 25th June from 8:30 to 18:00, and be divided into a morning session aimed at non-seismologists, and an afternoon session for experienced specialists. Please see the description below.

To participate in the workshop, please email jessica.johnson@xxxxxxxxx, specifying which session(s) you would like to attend.

We look forward to seeing you in Prague!

Kind regards,
Jessica Johnson and Jurgen Neuberg

VW06 New Processing and Interpretation Methods in Volcano Seismology

Convener: Jessica Johnson (Norwich, U.K.)

Co-convener: Jurgen Neuberg (Leeds, U.K.)

Description

This workshop will cater for two groups of volcanologists:
(i) The morning session will be for non-seismologists. We will give an introduction and hands-on exercises on how to do basic steps of seismic data processing using both short-period and broadband seismic data. This will allow us to identify and separate volcanic seismic events in time and frequency domain, and develop an understanding of their potential source mechanism and, therefore, their meaning and interpretation in terms of monitoring strategies.
(ii) The afternoon session will be for the experienced specialists in volcano seismology. We will focus in a small group on latest advances in particular fields such as moment tensor inversions, identification of source processes, and modelling methods. Short presentations will lead into discussions about the state-of-the-art, and future directions for the community.

This workshop is co-sponsored by IASPEI.
