USGS California Volcano Observatory Recruitment Announcement:

The Volcano Hazards Program of the U.S. Geological Survey announces the posting of two job opportunities with the USGS California Volcano Observatory (CalVO) in Menlo Park, California.  Both positions are for permanent research geophysicists at the GS-13 level (base salary plus locality pay of $98,815/yr).  Job applications will be available starting on 30 March 2015 by searching for positions numbered PAC-2015-0391 and PAC-2015-0379 at the following website: https://www.usajobs.govApplications must be received digitally through this website before midnight EST on 3 April 2015 and must include scanned copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts.

USAJOBS Position Announcement PAC-2015-0391 will be for a research geophysicist to lead CalVO’s volcano deformation monitoring program and conduct original research on topics related to the dynamics of magmatic reservoirs and magmatic-tectonic interaction.  The successful candidate will be experienced in geodetic monitoring methods (GPS, InSAR, Strain, Tilt), computer scripting and programing of geodetic monitoring data, and in conducting original, high impact research on actively deforming volcanoes.

USAJOBS Position Announcement PAC-2015-0379 will be for a research geophysicist to lead CalVO’s efforts to forecast volcano behavior through multi-parametric modeling of temporally resolved monitoring data and inferential statistics. The successful candidate will be experienced in volcano monitoring methods and data interpretation (seismic, deformation, gas), numerical methods and statistics, and in conducting original, high impact research on magma storage, transport, and eruption process.

For both positions, completion of a PhD is required and at least one year additional experience in either numerical modeling of magma storage, transport, and/or eruption processes using volcano monitoring data (for PAC-2015-0379), or, in conducting research on volcano deformation using data from continuous GPS monitoring networks (for PAC-2015-0391). USGS is an equal opportunity employer; however, the positions are open to U.S. Citizens only.
