Reminder: deadline for GSA MGPV early career award is approaching....
From: Wendy Bohrson <bohrson@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Colleagues,

As many of you know, the Mineralogy, Geochemistry, Petrology and Volcanology (MGPV) Division of GSA is still accepting nominations for the early career award.

The nomination deadline for the 2015 award has been extended to February 1, 2015, and the deadline for the 2016 award is July 15.

We are writing to you specifically to ask you for names of deserving younger career colleagues. You can help in two ways: (1) by sending us (bohrson@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or dsmith@xxxxxxxxxxx) the name of a nominee along with a likely nominator and/or (2) by directly nominating a deserving candidate. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize the significant work of a younger colleague, so please take a moment to think about potential nominees.

A description of the award is below. For nomination instructions, please  go to:

<http://www.minsocam.org/MGPV/ECA_nom_2015.pdf>

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact one of us. Many thanks for your time.

Best regards,

Diane Smith and Wendy Bohrson

The MGPV Early Career Award

The MGPV Early Career Award will go to an individual near the beginning of his/her professional career who has made distinguished contributions in one or more of the following fields of research: mineralogy, geochemistry, petrology, volcanology, with emphasis on multidisciplinary, field-based contributions. Nominations are restricted to those who are within eight years of the award of their final degree. Extensions of up to two years will be made for nominees who have taken career breaks for family reasons or caused by serious illness.

Nominees need not be citizens or residents of the United States, and membership in the Geological Society of America is not a requirement. The award will not be given posthumously.
