REMINDER: IAVCEI PLEBISCITE ON IAVCEI-IUGG RELATIONSHIP, NOMINATIONS FOR IAVCEI COMMITTEE, WAGER MEDAL, GEORGE WALKER AWARD, IAVCEI2015 Abstract Deadline

This is to remind IAVCEI Members of important deadlines in January:

15th January: IAVCEI Plebiscite on the relationship between IAVCEI and IUGG. IAVCEI Members who have read issues of IAVCEI Newsletter will be aware that the opinions of all IAVCEI members are being solicited on whether or not IAVCEI should remain within the IUGG organization if major differences between IAVCEI and IUGG on individual membership, and the rights of IAVCEI Members to participate in the governance of IAVCEI cannot be resolved. All IAVCEI Members should have received an email from IAVCEI before Christmas inviting them to vote on the issue and providing a direct link to the on-line voting site. Only registered members (as at 11th December 2014) can vote. PLEASE NOTE: It is NOT possible to access the voting site from the IAVCEI website. If you do not think you have received an email from IAVCEI inviting you to vote, please check your SPAM and JUNK folders. If you still feel you have not received an email and you think you are a registered member of IAVCEI and you would like to vote, please contact Adelina Geyer, Assistant Secretary General at: ageyertraver@xxxxxxxxx

31st January: Receipt of nominations for all positions on the IAVCEI Committee for 2015-2019. Information about the requirements for nominating are available from the December 2014 issue (nos. 3-4) of IAVCEI NEWS, which can be downloaded from the IAVCEI website at http://www.iavcei.org All committee positions (President, two Vice-Presidents, Secretary General – for two 4 year terms, and 4 committee positions) are open for nomination and election. Nomination packages should be emailed to former IAVCEI President, Oded Navon, as pdf files, at: odedn@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

• 31st January: Receipt of nominations for the WAGER MEDAL and GEORGE WALKER AWARD. Information about the requirements for both of these prestigious IAVCEI research awards are available from the December 2014 issue (nos. 3-4) of IAVCEI NEWS, which can be downloaded from the IAVCEI website at http://www.iavcei.org

PLEASE NOTE: There is an error in the eligibility criteria for the WAGER MEDAL published in the December IAVCEI NEWS.  The criteria used to include an age limit of 43 years old, but this was changed at the last IAVCEI General Assembly to allow scientists who did not commence their PhD studies until relatively late, to be eligible. The correct criterion, as listed on the IAVCEI website is: “The medal is given every two years (i.e. at both Scientific and General Assemblies), to a scientist up to 15 years after Ph.D acquisition, who has made outstanding contributions to volcanology, particularly in the eight-year period prior to the Award.” Apologies for any inconvenience this error may have caused.

Immediate deadlines for the IAVCEI2015 General Assembly conference, in Prague, Czech Republic, late June-July 2015, as part of the IUGG General Assembly.

- 15th January: Applications for Conference Grants

- 31st January: Abstracts submission deadline

All information about the IAVCEI2015 scientific program, grant applications and abstract submission processes can be found at the IUGG2015 website at: http://www.iugg2015prague.com

All students and scientists can attend this conference, irrespective of whether or not you are a member of IAVCEI.

Ray Cas,

President of IAVCEI

(International Association for Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth’s Interior)
