Dear colleagues,

We welcome contributions to our session at the 2015 Near Surface Asia Pacific Conference entitled "Volcano Characterization and Modeling.”  The meeting will be held at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island of Hawai`i from July 7-10, 2015.

All abstracts along with application forms must be submitted electronically to nsgapc@xxxxxxx in PDF format by 6 January 2015. Student papers are encouraged. Please see the website for more information: www.seg.org/meetings/nsgapc15

Volcano Characterization and Modeling

Geophysics is critical to understanding the physical processes at work under active volcanoes.  Better characterization of the structure and shallow processes within the volcano directly feedback into better hazard assessments and forecasts of volcanic activity.  There are a variety of techniques including passive and active seismic methods, infrasound and magnetotellurics, among many others, that may reveal details of the shallow hydrothermal or magmatic systems under volcanoes of all types.  Forward modeling of volcanic processes to fit combinations of different geophysical or geologic observations is also critical to a better understanding of the volcano.  This session aims to showcase recent near-surface geophysical studies in all volcanic or geothermal environments.  We encourage submissions from geophysicists in the private and public sector, especially those with new techniques or interpretations that pertain to volcanic processes at the surface or shallow subsurface, shallow volcanic structure or hydrothermal system characterization.

Sincerely,

Weston Thelen
