Dear SIMS users,

The WHOI SIMS lab (Northeast National Ion Microprobe Lab) is pleased to offer a 3 day short course in Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry, January 14-16, 2015, at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The course will focus on historical, analytical, and technical aspects of SIMS, and will allow participants to gain hands-on experience tuning, running, and analyzing data from the Cameca ims 1280 SIMS. This year’s course will focus on U/Pb geochronology, both in instrument setup and data reduction/analysis. In an effort to maximize the utility of a hands-on course such as this, we intend to limit our enrollment to 15 total, with preference given to students and post-docs. Prior SIMS experience is not required. Please contact Brian Monteleone (bmonteleone@xxxxxxxx) with questions, or to enroll in the course. Housing for visiting students, some limited travel funding, and course-time meals will be provided. There is
no fee to enroll for this course. We hope to see you in January!

Best wishes,
Brian Monteleone, Nobu Shimizu, and Glenn Gaetani
