The IRIS Early Career Investigators (ECI) Working Group and the UNAVCO Education and Community Engagement (ECE) Program invite late-stage graduate students through pre-tenure faculty to attend a networking luncheon at the AGU Fall Meeting. ECIs will be asked to deliver a short (<2 minute) ‘pop-up’ talk about themselves and their research to stimulate discussion and practice their ‘elevator’ speeches.  We hope that this provides ECIs an opportunity to practice public speaking in a way that is understandable to a wide audience, and create a unique forum to disseminate ECI science in a cross-disciplinary way.

The luncheon will take place on Wednesday, December 17th between 12:15-1:45 pm at the Hotel Palomar, which is two blocks away from Moscone West.  Doors will open for lunch at 11:45 am, and the program will begin promptly at 12:15.  Attendance is limited to 30 people on a first-come, first-serve basis.  A pre-luncheon webinar will also take place in early December to emphasize best practices for oral presentations and the importance of distilling one’s research to a broad community.  Slides will be due on Friday, December 12th to allow for organization before the luncheon.

Please reply to Danielle Sumy (danielle.sumy@xxxxxxxx) if you’d like to take part.  We look forward to your participation!

Thanks,
Danielle Sumy, on behalf of the ECI Working Group, and Aisha Morris, on behalf of UNAVCO ECE
