Holistic rock physics: integrating theory, observation and applications in space and time
6–10 September 2015

University of Cumbria, Ambleside, Lake District, UK

Following on from the previous successful events in this series, we are delighted to host the 11th Euro-conference on Rock Physics and Geo-Mechanics in Ambleside, Lake District, UK. The theme of the conference will be ‘Holistic Rock Physics: integrating theory, observation and applications in space and time'. Sessions will include fault healing/sealing, time dependent deformation, hydration/dehydration in crustal rocks, induced seismicity, scaling relations, and fluid driven fracture mechanics. A field trip to outcrops of the Borrowdale Volcanic Group will be arranged during the conference week.
The conference venue is Charlotte Mason House (conference centre of the University of Cumbria) located in Ambleside; a market town in the centre of the beautiful English Lake District at the northern end of Lake Windermere, the largest lake in England. The location provides easy access to stunning Lake District geology and particularly to the Tertiary Volcanic Province. In the EURO-conference tradition, this location is away from urban centres so as to encourage discussion and networking between conference participants.

Ambleside is easily reached by train to Windermere from London (three hours from Euston Station) and directly from Manchester Airport (90 minutes).

We expect to release a second circular, which will include further information including participant fees and reduced rates for students, in January 2015.
