Postdoctoral Researcher - Applications of X-ray Tomography in Earth Sciences

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in computed tomography (CT) using X-ray, and in the quantification of textures of rock samples in 3D. Efforts will be directed primarily in two areas: the quantification of textures of volcanic rocks collected from the large volcanic-geothermal field los Humeros - Mexico, and the characterization the rock samples in mainly in terms of porosity, permeability and thermal conductibility. The research will perform CT scans at various resolutions using the newly acquired ZEISS Xradia 510 Versa 3D X-ray microscopes (XRM), as well as, numerical modeling associated with fluid flow in rock samples and data visualization on a large multi-display screen.

The position is initially for 1 year, and may be extended for another year based on performance. The successful candidate will be based at Centro de Geociencias (Geosciences Center) (www.geociencias.unam.mx), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), National Autonomous University of Mexico

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Geology, Geophysics, or related sciences, and have demonstrated expertise in computed tomography for rock analysis. The successful applicant will have demonstrated leadership, communication and teamwork skills, and a strong desire to engage in interdisciplinary research.

Further information can be obtained by contacting Profs. Gerardo Carrasco and Vlad C. Manea, Centro de Geociencias (Geosciences Center)  Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), National Autonomous University of Mexico
