Dear Colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to AGU Session #2952: “What can pyroclasts tell us?”

“Pyroclasts are fragments of silicate melts. They are generated within volcanoes and during transport and capture information on unobservable processes that govern volcanic eruptions. Increasingly refined analyses are being used to investigate 1) pyroclast ejection, 2) individual clasts of volcanic bombs, lapilli and volcanic ash after deposition or 3) bulk volcanic deposits. When combined with sophisticated experiments and models, those analyses improve our comprehension of volcanic phenomena and ultimately the processes driving magma decompression, fragmentation and transport along the ground or through the atmosphere. In this session we will explore the forefront of analysis and interpretation of pyroclasts and pyroclastic deposits. We welcome contributions from field and experimental volcanology, monitoring and computational modelling to build dialogue between diverse scientists about how best to decipher eruption mechanisms as well as transport and depositional processes using pyroclasts.”

Abstract submission is open through August 6. To submit an abstract to this session, follow this link:  https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm14/webprogrampreliminary/Session2952.html

We look forward to a great Fall Meeting and seeing you in San Francisco.

On behalf of my fellow conveners (Ulrich Kueppers and Corrado Cimarelli in Munich),

Cheers,

Ben
