Dear Colleagues,

We invite contributions to AGU Session #2812, “The Growth and Demise of the Volcanic Edifice:  Understanding Processes Shaping Volcano Morphology in Submarine and Subaerial Environments”.

Session Description:

The growth of a volcanic edifice is controlled by processes of both construction and destruction. The behavior of intrusions and eruptions that dictate volcano growth are governed by eruption rate (magma type, gas content, etc) and, in part, the local or regional stress field. Meanwhile processes such as erosion and mass wasting modify and can lead to, destruction of the volcano’s structure. We invite contributions that use tools such as seismology, hydroacoustics, and infrasound to investigate the processes that govern volcano growth in both subaerial and submarine settings. Studies related to volcano morphology, landslides/debris flows, eruption style, and edifice deformation are encouraged.

Please consider submitting your relevant research to this session.  This session is co-sponsored by VGP and Seismology.  Abstracts are due by August 6, 2014.
