Dear Colleagues,
We invite your contributions to session 2285, Transients in
explosive eruptions, at the 2014 Fall AGU meeting. Abstracts are due
August 6.
Session Description:
Transient processes pervade explosive volcanic eruptions at time
scales from minutes to seconds and eruption styles from Plinian to
Strombolian. Geological and geophysical examples of eruptive transients
span from pulsatory sedimentation from plume instabilities,
through abrupt magma-water interactions, to the generation of seismic,
acoustic, and electromagnetic 'spikes'. Recent advancements now allow
for both detecting transients at shorter and smaller temporal and
spatial scales, and theoretically modeling their
effect on the overall eruption dynamics. This session aims to combine
contributions of observations of this temporal variability with those
demonstrating the theoretical tools that describe the transient effects
on the eruption dynamics. We are particularly
interested in contributions that describe eruptions characterized by 1)
multiple pulses or blasts or 2) an increase in activity that peaks and
then wanes, or studies that classify a series of events based on their
similar temporal evolutions. We welcome field-,
numeric- or laboratory-based studies.
Sincerely,
Jacopo Taddeucci (INGV, Rome, jacopo.taddeucci@xxxxxxx)
