We would like to draw your attention to the following session to be held at the 2014 GSA Annual Meeting in Vancouver, October 19-22 and hope that you will consider submitting an abstract.  Abstracts are due July 29th, 2014.

GSA 2014 session T117 Magmas and their sources: A tribute to the distinguished career of Fred Frey.

Conveners: Michael O. Garcia, J. Michael Rhodes, Rosemary Hickey-Vargas

Sponsors: GSA Mineralogy, Geochemistry, Petrology, and Volcanology Division; Geochemical Society.

Invited Speakers: Bruce Watson; Dominique Weis

This session is a tribute to Fred Frey, this year’s recipient of the GSA Mineralogy, Geochemistry, Petrology, and Volcanology Divisions Distinguished Career Award.  Reflecting Fred’s remarkable career, the session will focus on all aspects of magma production within both the crust and upper mantle, and on the processes that modify these magmas en-route to eruption or crustal emplacement.  We welcome contributions from a wide range of disciplines (e.g., geochemistry, petrology, mineralogy, field studies), and would particularly appreciate integrative studies concordant with Fred’s penetrating and wide-ranging efforts to understand magmas and magma sources.
