The Instituto Geofísico de la Escuela Politécnica Nacional (Institute of Geophysics – EPN) in Quito-Ecuador is seeking to fill a full-time volcano seismologist position, beginning in August 2014. The position would be held for a minimum of one year, with potential subsequent contracts extended on a yearly basis. The successful candidate will be expected to aid in seismic monitoring of active volcanic centers within mainland Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands, as well as undertaking independent scientific research within the area of volcano seismology. Field work would also be likely. Ideal applicants are expected to have a Masters (MSc) and/or doctorate (PhD) degree. A coding capability in programs such as Matlab, Python, R, C, C++ etc., would be useful, as well as experience in the installation and maintenance of seismic equipment. Spanish language skills would be advantageous but are not a requirement. The applicant should include a Curriculum Vitae (CV), a cover letter, and the names and contact details of at least two references when applying for the position.
