The UK National Oceanography Centre would provide a strong base for those with interests in volcanic islands, marine record of eruptions, flank collapse and tsunamis hazards, and submarine volcanism. It provides good access to UK ship time, support and cutting edge technology. We have recently played a major role in IODP Expedition 340 off Montserrat and Martinique, and will have future research cruises off the Canary Islands.
This would be a chance to join a young and rapidly growing research team, with these new positions reflecting sustained funding success. We have access to an unusually large pool of PhD studentships through our joint graduate school with the University of Southampton.
