Hello fellow geos,
The
annual GSA meeting will be held in beautiful Vancouver, British
Columbia, this coming October. Aside from a selection of field trips to
great locations in the Northern Cascades, the Garibaldi Volcanic Belt
and the Wells-Gray Volcanic Field, there are also numerous topical
sessions that would be of interest to the volcanology community.
We invite you to submit an abstract to session T122: Magmatism and geodynamics within the Cascadia subduction zone
This
session promotes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the
links between lithospheric plate dynamics, slab metamorphism and
dehydration, melt generation, and magmatism within the Cascadia
subduction margin since its inception about 40 Million years ago.
Our
goal is to attract research that explores the geodynamic and thermal
state of the Cascadia subduction zone and its temporal evolution from
geophysical and petrological perspectives. We seek contributions that
explore the composition and structure of both the subducting and
overriding plates along the Cascade arc, the evolution of the subducting
Juan de Fuca plate with depth and over time (the P,T,t path), and the
nature of the mantle wedge. This session seeks to foster an
interdisciplinary discussion regarding how these factors relate to
mineral phase changes within the slab, and ultimately, the nature and
flux of fluids and melts through the subduction factory.
Keynote speakers:
Anita Grunder (OSU)
Gene Humphreys (UO)
Simon Peacock (UBC)
Abstracts can be submitted here: https://gsa.confex.com/gsa/2014AM/cfp.epl and the deadline is July 29th
We hope to see you there!
