1st International Workshop on Volcano Geology
Madeira, July 7-11, 2014

REGISTRATION AND ABSTRACT SUBMISSION IS ALREADY OPEN!!
(Deadline for early-bird registration and abstract submission: 15th April 2014)

Volcanology has made great advances in the last three decades becoming a modern interdisciplinary science that has learned how to quantify volcanic processes, their associated hazards and resources, as well as the impact of volcanic activity on the society and environment. In this scientific and technological revolution undertaken by modern volcanology it is remarkable the explosion of physical and mathematical modelling as a necessary tool to undertake a comprehensive approach on volcanic processes. This important advance has, however, relegated in some cases geological studies to a second term, although geology is still the main source of data on which to base volcano studies. To strength the importance of geology in modern volcanology we propose to organise the 1st International Workshop on Volcano Geology in order to provide a forum for discussion among researchers on the state of the art of geological studies in volcanology as the basis for understanding the behaviour of   volcanoes and their future activity, and to encourage multidisciplinary research in the geological fields involved in volcanological studies.

We will invite abstracts on topics relating to the geological studies of volcanic systems, thus including:

- volcano-stratigraphy
- volcano geochronology
- geological mapping
- tectonic structure of volcanic systems
- construction and erosion on volcanic edifices
- sedimentology and facies analysis of volcanic deposits
- petrology and geochemistry of volcanic systems
- geological aspects of hazard assessment
- geological interpretation of volcanic unrest

and any other topic you could consider relevant to be included here.

REGISTRATION AND ABSTRACT SUBMISSION IS ALREADY OPEN!!  (Deadline for early-bird registration and abstract submission: 15th April 2014)

Best regards

The conveners:

Joan Marti (joan.marti@xxxxxxxxxxxxx)
Antonio Brum (antonio.brum@xxxxxxxx)
Gianluca Groppelli (gianluca.groppelli@xxxxxxxx)
Roberto Sulpizio (roberto.sulpizio@xxxxxxxx)
José Luis Macías (jlmv63@xxxxxxxxx)
