Post-doctoral position in Computational Volcanology at University of Bristol
From: Jo Gottsmann <J.Gottsmann@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>
************************************************************************************************

The School of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol (UK) has an opening for a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in Computational Volcanology. The fixed-term contract is for a period of 2 years and is part of an externally-funded research project that aims to develop a process-based understanding of the interactions between magmatic/volcanic activity and associated hydrothermal systems in order to better interpret available hydrological and geophysical monitoring data.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and capable individual that is interested in working on integrating computational models of subsurface stress and strain evolution in complex media. Prior experience with volcano geodesy/geophysics, geophysical data processing, fluid and solid mechanics computational modelling and interpretation is required. Thorough working experience using finite element or discrete element analysis modelling software is desirable.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop a new generation of computational models that yield fundamental insights on the role and dynamics of sub-surface reservoirs at restless volcanoes.

Interviews of short-listed applicants are expected to be held on 23rd January 2014. The preferred start date for the position is 3rd March 2014, but other start dates will also be considered.

Applicants should include a statement of their research interests and experience to date in their cover letter as part of the on-line application (http://www.bris.ac.uk/jobs/find/list.html).

For informal enquiries please contact: Dr. J. Gottsmann by email to gljhg@xxxxxxxxxxxxx.
