A full-time position in analyzing electromagnetic data at the Icelandic Meteorological Office
The role of the Icelandic Meteorological Office in monitoring, information dissemination and research of volcanic eruption processes has been greatly expanded in recent years. A major investment has been carried out in infrastructure related to monitoring of eruptions and their effect on the atmosphere. Today a dedicated group of specialists works at the Icelandic Meteorological Office working on these topics.
Main role and responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to lead the development of applications of remote sensing data (from Lidars, ceilometers and satellites) to monitor natural hazards in real-time, with special emphasis on products detecting and monitoring volcanic ash. Furthermore, he/she is expected to develop system to manage data streams from instruments and generate products to be used operationally by the IMO for real-time monitoring and the issuance of warnings. Management of projects relating to remote sensing and participation in the planning and implementation of systems to monitor airborne particulates. A leading role in the communication with stakeholders both within and outside Iceland, including EUMETSAT.
Requirements
• A doctorate in Physics or comparable education
• Experience in analysis of data, research and/or development of satellite based products
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to communicate team results
• Initiative and professional competence
• Solid background in computers and programming ability (Unix/Linux)
• Good knowledge of Icelandic and/or English
• Experience in project management would be advantageous

Salary is according to the appropriate civil service level.
