Etna volcano photos: strombolian activity at NSEC and steam (vortex) rings

Dear friends and colleagues,

Etna had one of her largest paroxysms in recent years during 10-11 November 2013 during which she produced intense lava fountains and lava flows. However, capricious as she is, she only let people see the very beginning and the end of it, and hid herself in a large storm during the main phase of the eruption.
Volcanologist Ingrid Smet (Univ. Gent) and me were lucky to witness the (still spectacular) strombolian activity at the New SE crater that preceded and followed the main phase of the eruption, as well as a surprise: some of the most beautiful smoke rings ever.
