JOB POSITIONS in GEOPHYSICS at OVSICORI-UNA

The Observatory of Volcanology and Seismology of Costa Rica, National University, OVSICORI-UNA invites applications for 2 positions in geophysics:
Profile 1: Geophysicist or specialist in tectonic deformation
Requirements:
- MSc. or Ph.D in Earth Sciences with emphasis in tectonic deformation or geophysics
- Teaching skill at graduate level
- Minimum 2 publications in national and/or international scientific reviews
- Fluency in English
- Fulfill 5 or more of the following competencies:
1) Experience, skill and knowledge in designing, planning and running deformation networks for volcanic and tectonic survey
2) Field experience to set-up and run GNSS stations, angular measurements, EDM, precise leveling, tiltmeters and gravimeter, as well as processing the data and developing models
3) Experience in processing, developing models and interpreting interferometry data from radar or lidar
4) Experience in systematic reduction, plotting and presentation of deformation data
5) Good skill in programming or scripts (preferably C, Fortran, Perl, Python)
6) Knowledge and experience in processing software such as Gypsi-Oasis o Bernese
7) Experience in planning and running investigation projects related to deformation studies and gravimetry campaign of measurements on volcanoes
- Physical capacity on volcanic fields
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary group
- Capacity to orally express knowledge and results
- Availability to teach at the university a ¼ of time
- Availability to drive institutional vehicles (driving license)
- Availability to work at the hours demanded by the programs and projects of the OVSICORI or the university.
Profile 2: Geophysicist. Focus in Seismology
Requirements:
- MSc. or Ph.D in Earth Sciences with emphasis in seismology or geophysics
- Teaching skill at graduate level
- Minimum 2 publications in national and/or international scientific reviews
- Fluency in English
- Competencies:
1) Field experience to set-up and run digital seismic and GPS stations
2) Experience in processing seismic data (location, determination of rupture mechanisms,…), in managing a seismological database (preferably Antelope,) and in processing, post-processing, modeling and interpreting GPS data
3) Skill in languages such as Unix, Linux, Python,…
4) Availability to teach at the university a ¼ of time
5) Availability to drive institutional vehicles (driving license)
- Availability to work at the hours demanded by the programs and projects of the OVSICORI or the university.
