Hello all:
We would like to draw your attention to the AGU session V022, "Magma Differentiation: The Plutonic-Volcanic
Connection", at the December 9-13 Fall AGU Meeting, and encourage you to submit an abstract to the session.
Briefly, this session aims to further investigate plutonic-volcanic
connections in both the felsic and mafic realms, particularly from a
timescale perspective. However, we welcome wide-ranging submissions
regarding geochronology, petrography, modeling,
structural studies and more.
Please see the full session description below. Invited speakers are
Luca Caricchi, Bernard Charlier, Craig Lundstrom, and Max Schmidt.
The deadline for abstract submission is Tuesday, August 6th. Information about abstract submission can be found here.

Session V022. Magma Differentiation: The Plutonic-Volcanic Connection
We will compare and contrast current thinking about the rates of
magma accumulation, magma mush development and crystal-liquid separation
in mafic and felsic magma systems, and use these to evaluate plutonic
and volcanic rock connections in each. Advances
in understanding modes and time-length scales of magma differentiation
and solidification in the crust will be evaluated for both low- and
high-silica magmas. We invite contributions that explore the impact of
shallow-crustal magmatic processes in determining
the petrography and chemistry of both mafic and felsic plutonic and
volcanic rocks. Is modern thought regarding processes across
mafic/felsic and intrusive/extrusive rocks converging? Or diverging?
