We invite contributions to this inter-disciplinary session.
V006. Data-driven Science in Geochemistry, Petrology, and Volcanology
Confirmed Invited Speakers:
Cin-Ty Lee, Rice University, USA
Natalia Deligne, GNS Science, New Zealand
Colleen Dalton, Brown University, USA
Bob Hazen, Carnegie Institution, USA
Grand science challenges in geochemistry, petrology, and volcanology require access and integration of vast amounts of data and their seamless integration into dynamic models. Progress will be greatly accelerated with a cyberinfrastructure (CI) that is guided by a community-endorsed vision of comprehensive, multi-disciplinary, networked data resources, interoperable and dynamic modeling and visualization tools, and effective sample curation linked to digital data infrastructure. We invite contributions that identify key science questions that present challenges to existing cyberinfrastructure, formulate a cyberinfrastructure vision and next steps toward realizing it, and showcase science that utilizes CI systems and services.
Conveners: Kerstin Lehnert (Columbia University) , Liz Cottrell (Smithsonian Institution), Rajdeep Dasgupta (Rice University) and Mark Ghiorso (OFM Research)
