Dear Colleagues.

Please consider contributing an abstract to and attending the following AGU session V012. Explosive volcanism and ash in marine environments.

Conveners: Rachel Scudder (Boston University), S. Adam Soule (WHOI) Gisela Winckler (LDEO)

Description: Explosive volcanic deposits are common in marine sediments both proximal to and distal from eruptive centers. Volcanic ash (found as discrete layers and dispersed through sediment) and pyroclastic deposits provide insights into regional and global eruptive histories and associated hazards. The physical processes of ash dispersal through the water column and its deposition in marine sediments from both subaerial and submarine eruptions, as well as the biogeochemical responses to volcanic inputs in surface waters, remain open questions. We welcome observational, laboratory, and modeling studies addressing the physical and chemical processes of ash dispersal and deposition in the modern oceans and paleoceanographic/ paleoclimatic past.

Invited Speakers: Steffen Kutterolf (Geomar) and TBA

Co-Sponsors: OS, PP

SWIRLs: Dust and Aerosols
